Day 1 Pheonix

We have arrived in Phoenix and the adventure of the West Coast has begun!!

Yesterday was a long travel day from Florida, but all of us arrived safely and spent the day at the pool.

Today we gathered on our home on wheels for the next two weeks and we first took a tour of Phoenix. Our first stop was the state capital. We had a chance to walk through the Vietnam and World War II Monument statue gardens. We even saw the USS Arizona anchor in front of the state capital. Some of us went to Hawaii and that was the anchor from the WWII ship that was sunk at Pearl Harbor. It was extremely hot today with temperatures reaching 109 degrees (43 Celsius). It is not as humid as Florida so even though it was hot it was still manageable to keep cool.

An attempt at being a cactus??

Our next stop was Papago State Park. We did a little hiking and saw some rocks that were formed nearly 15 million years ago. There was even a hole in one of the rocks. The view was really cool because we could see the mountains, Phoenix, and the desert landscape. It was really cool how well the rocks formed because they were extremely red and none of us are really use to that. Some of us even saw a lot of cactus for the first time and we learned that it can take up to 50 years to grow one arm on a Giant Cactus.

After the end of our Phoenix tour we stopped at the Scottsdale Fashion Mall for some lunch. Don't worry we didn't go too crazy with the credit cards, we really just needed some food in our stomachs.

Once we ate we packed up the bus to head to Sedona, Arizona. The small town was in the middle of the desert and we can't even figure out how you could establish a town without any water near you. The mountains were spectacular as well with many many pictures taken. It was truly a once in a lifetime view!

Our final destination is Williams, Arizona. We are staying in a Western Theme hotel in the middle of the mountains. We are relaxing because tomorrow we have a long hike through the Grand Canyon. We are so excited to see this view!! Day 1 is done and onto Day 2, let the adventure continue!!
